"The Fall Guy" - A Movie Review
Do you remember the show The Fall Guy? Starring Lee Majors? No? I don't either. Apparently it was big in the 80's and had something to do with a stunt man.
That's cool. But did you know there's a new movie version starring Ryan Gosling and Emily Blunt? No?! There is!!!
I actually saw the trailer for this move about 15 times in the past year. It was attached to many, many movies I saw at the theater and I figured I knew exactly what it would be.
And I kinda wanted to see it, because it looked kinda good.
When I watched the movie last night, though, I discovered something in the first 10 minutes: this wasn't the movie that we saw in the trailer.
Sure, many of the scenes were the same, but the context was different and the movie was much more odd and enjoyable than I had expected.
Ryan Gosling is a stunt man. He makes movies. Then he doesn't make movies for a bit, then he is called to be in a movie being directed by his ex-girlfriend, played by Emily Blunt (married to Jim from The Office), so he travels to Australia to work for her.
And then things are different than we thought. And odd, kinda awesome, jokes are made that you wouldn't find in a regular blockbuster movie.
And there are actions scenes! And romance! And intrigue!
It's just an enjoyable ride that I didn't expect and I give kudos to the people who made the trailer because it was real, but deceptive. Great job!
There are quite a few mid-level swear words, which I don't like (of course). And a small amount of potty humor. But overall, I really enjoyed "The Fall Guy." At one point I realized I was enjoying the 80's soundtrack and looked down at my theater (I was in the top row) and saw that at least 60% of the audience was dancing to the beat.
That's a sign that people are invested in your movie. And that's a good thing.
