I just finished watching the series finale of an amazing show. It's sad to think that it has ended. I know I'm a bit late to the party as I had it sitting in the queue and was purposefully ignoring it. I knew it would make me sad and long for more. It is one of a handful of shows that I watch regularly. In a world where I watch content regularly and often, it's a paradox of choice and this was number one on my list.
As "The Good Doctor" bids goodbye, it leaves behind a legacy of groundbreaking representation and compelling storytelling. It opened doors for more nuanced portrayals of neurodiverse characters on television and inspired conversations about inclusivity and acceptance. The show's impact extends beyond entertainment, contributing to a broader cultural understanding of autism."
Freddie Highmore's portrayal of Dr. Shaun Murphy has been widely praised for its sensitivity and depth. Highmore's performance brought a nuanced understanding of autism to mainstream audiences, earning him several award nominations. A few seasons in, just after the pandemic, we had the honor of chatting with Elfina Luk who portrayed Nurse Dalisay Villanueva. What a wonderful time we had and reflecting on this show and her amazing career.
What a great ride this was and like all great things, it must come to an end. If you have not watched, or are just beginning, get ready for a wonderful and tearful journey! If the profound words of Dr. Shawn Murphy, "I have to go."
